Why does the moon shine?

The moon does not have any light of its own, but shines because it reflects the light of the sun that falls on it.

How does the atmosphere surrounding the earth protects us?

The earth is surrounded by a layer of atmosphere which absorbs a part of the strong heat from the sun and allows only part of it to reach earth during the day. At night it does not allow the heat of the earth to escape. The atmosphere protects us from dangerous radiations and meteors which would otherwise have fallen on the earth.

How are tides caused?

The moon's gravity is very weak but it still has a noticeable effect on the earth. It pulls the waters of the seas and oceans of the earth causing tides.

How does solar eclipse occur?

The moon casts a shadow on the earth. When people in the shadow of the moon cannot see the sin, it is called as solar eclipse.
At the Hme of solar eclipse, the sun, moon and earth are in a straight line and once the moon moves out of the line the eclipse gets over.

What is partial lunar eclipse?

The moon constantly revolves around the earth. At times during this journey, the moon is only partly hidden by the dark shadow of the earth. This is called as parHal lunar eclipse.

What are artificial satellites?

Artificial satellites are man-made objects which revolve around the earth just as the moon. Artificial Satellites were designed for scientific researches and to give us valuable information about the atmosphere that is surrounding the earth. There are weather satellites that help us know about early warnings of storm, cyclones, earthquakes etc. Communication satellites which send messages from one country to another.

We see astronauts floating  in space but not on earth. Why?

Since there is no air in space the astronauts have to wear space suits. These suits create a small atmosphere around their bodies. These special suits enable them to float.
